Paulo's 30th mega birthday

There is so much to say about this past weekend, so much craziness and wildness. Words are hard to come by at this moment, and I can only paraphrase the genius words of Tinne:

"never mix wine champagne and vodka at the same night..."

When my body and brain recover I'll be able to say more, but Paulo's birthday was indeed mega... a perfect place(s), a perfect night, the best fun I've ever experienced! But it was not about me, it was all about him. I hope he enjoyed everything I setup for that night (I have a lot of people to thank for helping me out).

Anyway, either he had fun or not, I think this photo says it all:

I'll let you know when I post the official Photo set of this amazing night!

Update: the official Photo set is now available here

Paulo's eBuddy

It makes me feel really happy to see my friends success!

I still remember a few years ago when Paulo created this little tool that allowed him to chat anytime and anywhere using the MSN Messenger network on his own PDA or cellular phone. I think he didn't expect what was coming back then.... suddenly he had a few thousand visitors every day downloading his tool to use themselves.

I still remember when he started spending money on a few more servers to be able to sustain all those users, and we discussed ideas on how to make the whole system more stable, resiliant and web-based. Suddenly, this little app turned into what it is now eBuddy, a whole web-based messaging platform, used by half-million people every single day!

When going to their offices, there I'm known as the co-creator because I was the one who initially gave Paulo the idea of "maybe" make the thing profitable by having banners... this is nowadays funny, because actually that is how their business model works... although I don't get any direct advantage from "being" the co-creator I end up taking advantage of Paulo's fortunate life (besides being able to watch TV every day on a huge HD screen at home, besides other things I also have the pleasure to know how it feels to have a Vespa and travel with it around the city!).

So it is really cool nowadays, looking back at how the whole thing started, to go to special conferences and find out that one of the main sponsors is Paulo's company, like it happened a few weeks ago!

And today I find, in one of my favourite tech/web blogs (actually one of the most important blogs of them all) that their own party (which is completely booked!) has, among others, the sponsoring of Paulo's eBuddy!!!

Paulo: I feel proud for you dude! RESPECT!

About me

"I'd seen the light. It was this glaringly obvious blind realization, like pure truth! And it wasn't about anyone in particular, but about people in general. I realized (...) there is no such thing as THE one... It's more about mind-bogling whole hell of a lot of potential ones. Although that should be conforting, it's actually pretty terrifying. We'd all have to kick back and wait for some magical force to show us who we should spend the rest of our lifes with. But the truth is... there isn't a lightning-bolt that slaps you on the ass and tells you to pick this person over all others! If anything... it's like the rain. Rain falls all the time... sometimes you're prepared for it, sometimes you're not. Independent where you are when it hits, you either get caught in it or you don't. (In fact, most of us usually try like hell to avoid it.) You might miss the bus, you might catch the bus. Maybe you remembered your umbrella, maybe you didn't. No big science. Just random torrential bursts of opportunity. And that's the most fate can do. The rest... is up to us!"
